Honey-Bee. Through the mesh bars my
eyes feasted upon her. A chunky Blenheim cavalier. All my prayers had been
answered, a soul mate for Annie, a companion for each of them. Her name had been chosen before I had seen her, “Honey-Bee” fine, flighty and delicate but within seconds in my heart she was my “chunky monkey!” There were no hesitations for her to come forwards, she was willing to give all there and then. How trusting and honest was she, it was on “love me as I am” terms, and I did just that. Snuggled on my knee with eyes peeled tightly we travelled home. Adoringly she gazed at me, did she know already that she was mine, could she tell that I would only love her and never mistreat her. I questioned it all and hugged her even tighter. We arrived home and entered the garden and I put her down. Honey wasn’t in the awful condition that Annie had been in, she didn’t carry that pungent smell but it was obvious that her little body had given life to many pups, tummy and teats were touching the ground and her legs were shaky from being tightly caged and her movements restricted. What is it about these little souls that evoke feelings of protection like a mother bear with cubs. Honey
my “chunky monkey” made herself quite at home. It was if she knew her way
around already, how very strange! Within hours she had mingled with Annie and
Rosie my Sheltie. We call her the “superior” one!
Rosie is my right hand and is an expert at these initiation ceremonies
with all the practice she already had. Honey was ready for anything that was coming her way. The bath and tidy up session she just accepted pleased to be handled and touched by kind gentle hands. The huge eyes followed you everywhere begging for love and as if to say “wait for me I’m coming too” And
that is how it is today, behind me with every step, beside every chair, with me
all the way. I take her
to training classes, she started the week after I brought her home, she
loves it or rather loves the constant production of marvellous food in the form
of “treats” She mingles happily with her other friends and then she brings
the smells and excitement home to share with her companion Annie. Her life is shared with her
dear friend Annie. That are chalk and cheese, introvert and extrovert, quiet and
noisy but both so very loving. Both from the cruel trade of puppy farming,
neglected, abused, forgotten with no purpose to their lives except financial
gain, and this is in the form of selling stolen flesh……..their puppies. Today Honey and Annie are wanted, loved, adored and with every purpose to their lives. To them both, my girls, my cavaliers, my Annie and Honey I say “thank you” for touching my life with so much joy and happiness, xxx. Thank you to Alison
